Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/15/2011

Number: 1

First saw this Hummer on our feeder, but we accidently scared it into the Blue Spruces on the side of our yard. Then we saw it eating bugs or drinking sap/nectar from the buds on the Blue Spruce. It did that for approx. two minutes and then moved to our Bleeding Hearts. It stuck around for a little, but it was so windy that it could barely stay in one spot without getting blown all over the place. We were surprised to see it on such a cold, cloudy day with on and off rain.
Could not tell if it was an immature or a female, but the green was very iridescent even with the cloudy sky. This is our first spring sighting, we normally only see them during the fall migration.
