Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/15/2011

Number: 1

During the 7 days of warm, sunny temps last week, a female Monarch must have passed through and laid eggs on the milkweed that was 2-4 inches tall in my yard. Sunday, while weeding after several days of rain, I found 4 tiny, newly emerged Monarch caterpillars chomping away on one 12 inch tall common milkweed plant. A scan of smaller milkweed plants nearby, found 5.

This is the earliest I have ever found hatched eggs. Have yet to see the butterfly, but they certainly have been here.
