Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/24/2011

Number: 1

After weeks of waiting, on a cold, rainy Sunday, a single male R-t Hummingbird came to my back porch patio and sipped from some red Flowering Tobacco plants that I had just planted an hour earlier. I quickly filled the feeder, but the temperature inversion quickly drained the sugar water. This often happens on cold mornings when the morning sun hits the feeder. The hummer has not come back. I usually do not see any until after the young have been raised.
