Date: 05/12/2011

Number: 1

A Monarch adult was first sighted in the Sylvania area at a location within 5 minutes of the Lourdes College Life Lab. The sighting by a naturalist friend of the Life Lab Program occurred on Thursday afternoon, May 12, 2011. The observer is a resident of the city of Sylvania and has been actively engaged in Monarch conservation for a number of years. She plants, as well as promotes the planting of butterfly gardens at residences and schools in the area, providing an awareness of a variety of milkweed host species. Her gardening efforts also include plantings that can serve as both hosts and nectar sources for native Lepidoptera. Candy Sariconda also contributed and advised on maintaining host plantings in our Wildlife Gardens at the Lourdes Life Lab.
