Robin (OTHER Observations)

Date: 05/09/2011

Number: 1

I noticed grass and twigs on our front porch and I cleared them off thinking the gardener left them there. A week later there were more. I went to see if it was some kind of nest and heard wings flapping overhead. Then I noticed some twigs hanging from a very small ledge at the top of the porch near the ceiling. It's above some details at the top of a pillar. It's not big enough to support a nest, but this robin keeps trying to build a nest and a huge pile of what doesn't stick ends up on the floor. When it rained she became more successful because things stuck together and there was some mud in what she brought. I keep expecting to see eggs on the grass below the nest, which I haven't disturbed. I kind of wish I had discouraged her earlier. This has been going on for about two weeks so she must be about to lay eggs. She seems a bit daft. The eggs may stay in place, but babies will surely fall out of this small space. I hope she doesn't lay any eggs.
