Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/22/2011

Number: 1

Last night at 6:15 pm while we were on our upper deck BBQ-ing, a hummingbird visited our feeder which was hanging just four feet from me. I had a pot of deep red silk flowers a couple of feet below the feeder. The hummingbird fed while hovering for 2-3 seconds then flew down to the double-flowering plum bush and sipped one flower. Then he flew back towards the feeder but kept on going (north) probably because he saw us. My husband was tending to the BBQ and missed the whole thing even though I was quietly saying "hummingbird, hummingbird at the feeder!". This is the first time that we have had a feeder here in Lacombe and we are looking forward to seeing more hummingbirds. Thanks to the person that recommended the red silk flowers!
