Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/21/2011

Number: 1

I had a Monarch dash through my yard yesterday (5/21) heading south. I was not able to determine the sex.

Our weather just broke from the 40's - 50's to 50's - 70's, 80 yesterday and today.

Milkweed is still pretty thin here. Most of the sunny protected areas are yielding 4-6 inch plants. I have two plants in my yard, at about six inches; both are coming out of the foundation of my house. My two milkweed beds and butterfly bed has yet to yield anything.

At our local state park, butterfly garden that is in a fairly well weather protected area that has about 20 milkweed plants 4-6 inches high.

I checked my MLMP plot and found about 40 plants at 4-6 inches. I checked about 20 plants and found no activity.
