Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/27/2011

Number: 1

Gibbs Butterfly Park has an abundance of milkweed. Last week we had a catarpillar explosion with about 12 caterpillars per milkweed plant. We have not seen any migrants coming through. The butterflies we are seeing are big and bright. We are experimenting with our beds and the North bed had its milkweed cut down, we left the South bed in tact. We have observed that the larva prefer young tender milkweed but none the less are eating the established milkweed. Chrysalis are now being observed on the walls.
