saw first Monarch of year - could see was pretty fresh specimen. not sure if male or female, but never got close to my abundant milkeweed patches (which should begin to bloom in days, both the tropical ones and the syriaca). (one syriaca has emerged only an inch or two, but has a full head of flower buds! wonder why.)
