Checked the blackberry patch milkweeds to see if the eggs I spotted about a week ago had hatched. There were, indeed, quite a few tiny caterpillars, just about every one of them nestled in the topmost, tiniest, emerging leaves. Not sure if they were 1st instar, or second. They didn't have the look of the newly emerged larva, but I'm never sure if that first stage changes appearance on its own or morphs into stage 2.
Took my usual finger by the larva photo to prove the game is on!
Side note: dragonflies by the hundreds were emerging today and hanging in rows on stems and flying about!
