Oriole (1st Baltimore)

Date: 06/02/2011

Number: 1

Through out the years I've seen Baltimore Orioles past on through but this is the first year I have actually have them staying. I have 2 males for sure and 1 female not sure if there is another female. Most of the time the female will be by herself feeding as do the males feed by themselves. Had both males at the feeders at the same time one chasing the other away. Have had both male and female at the feeders occasionally. Haven't seen 2 females at the feeders at all. Knowing how territorial they are during breeding season I'd say I have 2 pairs orioles staying in the same area. Between the oriole nectur sliced orange and the grape jelly they always go to the grape jelly first then nectur. They come to the feeders throughout the day into to early evening. They've been at my feeders for at least 3 weeks going into the 4 week. Very exciting to have them finally established and not pass on through like the rest of the years. Now waiting for the female or females to bring their young ones to the feeders. What I studied in many bird books as long as there is a steady food supply avaiable for the Orioles they will stay.
