We had an impromptu butterfly launch of 100 Monarchs which had emerged 2 days previously. K-4th grade Students gathered on the playground to release the first butterflies of the season, which had been reared from eggs found in early April. Counting those released a few days earlier and a few days later, we released a total of 230 Monarchs before the end of May! We have never had so many Monarchs so early in the year before! I wonder if all the severe weather systems of early spring blew the females here as they were trying to go north?
