Monarch Egg (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/05/2011

Number: 1

First observations of the year: In the morning several eggs were observed on small milkweed plants adjacent to drainage ditch next to my property. Leaves with eggs on plants where the city cuts the grass were brought inside to 'incubate' until they hatch.

Later in the afternoon an adult butterfly was observed flying across Wellington Street just east of the Lake Street intersection. It was definitely a monarch. This sighting is less than one kilometre from home.
