Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 07/11/2011

Number: 1

Identified two more new emerging Monarchs yesterday in the blackberry milkweed patch. There has been one or two every day for the last few days. In all, I would estimate about 50 Monarchs have emerged in the last week or so. Assuming a hundred eggs were laid, that would be a 50% success rate, an almost unbelievable number considering the normal rate is 3-4% as I understand it. If two hundred eggs were laid, 25%.........four hundred eggs, 12.5%..........all of them fantastic numbers.
Lots of matings. Milkweed patches look very good, moisture has been good. Now we'll look for lots of egg laying.
