At 6:30 last Friday evening, July 8th, a wish came true. I spotted my first adult monarch in my own back yard on an Australian pine tree. It was about 6:30 p.m. after another warm day in Kansas. Like the nesting of monarchs I observed last Fall nearby, it was resting on the northwest side of the tree.
Meanwhile, the monarch caterpillar shed its skin. Since then, I can even hear it munching on milkweed leaves in its safe container in my house.
