Hummingbird, Rufous (FIRST)

Date: 07/19/2011

Number: 1

As instructed by a local birder, we put our sugar water feeder out at the end of June. It has gradually been emptying, we thought due to dripping. Last evening at 10:15 pm we observed (for the first time since moving to AK in 5/09) a rufous hb busily working over several of our blooming delphiniums--colors from deep royal blue to light blue. Then we noticed the feeder level was empty, so it was promptly filled. We are uncertain whether hbs were also working on the feeder or not. So now we will observe more carefully.
