Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 07/23/2011

Number: 1

Sightings of Monarchs the last two days have been good. On 7/21 we made a 35 mile trip to River Falls, WI. I saw a least a dozen Monarchs crossing the roads on that trip. In addition, a relative from River Falls reported about three dozen Monarchs in a small pasture of milkweed west of town. I can only assume his estimate was accurate, but at any rate it would seem that he had a very good hatch near his house.
Yesterday, my wife made a 12 mile trip to New Richmond, WI and saw four Monarchs.
We continue to see Monarchs in our yard and on the back hill thanks to the good hatch we had over the 4th of July.
Lots of egg being laid......some 1st instars have been spotted. We're hoping for a terrific migrant generation here.
