Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 07/28/2011

Number: 1

I don't know if these monarchs are still on their spring migration to the north because they are busy laying eggs as well as sipping nector from the milkweed blossoms in our backyard at 810 West 5th Street, Duluth, MN 55806. We had a very cold spring in May and June followed by very hot days in July. The first monarchs arrived about a month late. The caterpillars look healthy and are growing well. It seems strange to be thinking of the fall migration already when the monarchs arrived such a short time ago.
