Monarch Adult Sighted

quick report on monarch activity here:
as of july31 we still had lots of butterfly activity from the july 4 hatch......
mostly i saw males searching for females, but i did see and photograph on female laying many eggs in the blackberry milkweed patch......
i have spotted dozens of first instar caterpillars and there should be lots of 2nd and perhaps 3rd stages by now if they have survived....
i would be interested in anyone's knowledgeable comments about the effect of males continuing to capture females even when they are laying eggs......this must be nature's best answer to continuing the species, but they sure seem to cut down on egg laying activity.....
comments please.
