As I traveled home from Mitchell, SD to Albert Lea, MN on I90 from 9 am - noon on August 1, 2011, I saw aproximately 30 monarch butterflies - all but one (which was flying N in smoke from a fire) was traveling south. I thought it was rather early for such directional flight. Wind was at about 15-25 mph from the south-southeast, so it was not that they were flying with the wind.
