Bald Eagle

Date: 08/03/2011

Number: 1

I was driving up the street I work on in an industrial park just outside Chicago and I saw what I now believe was a bald eagle on a grassy area no more than 15 feet from the street. At first I assumed it had to be a hawk of some kind. But the distinct white on the head and the rest of the feathers being a dark brown along with the large size of the bird leads me to believe it had to be a eagle. The Chicago river is just a few blocks away but what it was doing in an industrial area is beyond me. A woman I work with also saw it as she was pulling into work and went to take closer look when it took off. The wing span was huge. I saw other sightings on the internet in the area but they were 30 miles north or northwest of Chicago. I am still in shock over this amazing sighting!
