Yesterday, Saturday August 6, I spotted three Monarchs along the Colorado River near Webberville, TX (southeast of Austin). One lady was tattered with most of one forewing missing.
In 2009, I spotted six monarchs along the river on August 1st. The river riparian ecosystem has about the only flowering plants or shrubs in the area due to drought.
Frost weed, a fall migration staple, are wilted and drying up. Trees are dying.
I am scheduled for next river trip on labor day, but I'll try to get out with a net before-hand.
