Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/20/2011

Number: 1

Thirteen of us* had a good day of butterflying in Davidson County, primarily in Finch Park, High Rock Lake Boat Landing, and Boones Cave Park. But the lack of any hot nectar sources required kicking up butterflies in fields, wood edges, and woodland trails.
In spite of driving through showers from the north, east, and south to get to the the count site, weather at the count site was mostly sunny and warm, rising from 68 degrees to 89 degrees. And when I got home it was drizzling and that turned into a heavy rain, with a flash flood warning.

40 species,
275 butterflies, one monarch.
