I was at the backdoor watching the female hummingbird visit the Turk's cap and hibiscus when a fresh Monarch drifted by right in front of me (maybe 4') from south to north the length of the house ... just after noon. I watched on and off during the afternoon, never saw it again. Altus saw a large sulphur and Great southern white in the morning and I watched a Pipe-vine swallowtail all afternoon ... the most action we've had all summer!
Breaking all kinds of records here along the coast, 17th consecutive day of 100+ at Victoria and also at Houston ...
all time records for us. We are seeing dead shrubs in the neighborhood that were planted fifty years ago, dead hackberry and now cottonwood trees are bare. What we saw ten miles across the bay yesterday looked like winter ... scary! A report today said this drought could be extended over more than another decade.
