We had many resident RT hummers all summer, though they arrived late. Now, the migrants appear to be rushing south...earlier than usual? It's not unusual to have 50+, mostly females and young. I put out 1 gallon/nectar daily. They are also busy in the shrubs, looking for tiny insects. One spent @ 1 hr eating tiny spiders on the bottom of feeders. Observation: field is south of feeders. Have seen hummers (mamas?) chasing others (young?) away from flowers/feeders across field, heading south. Single birds take off south also. How brave!
