Black Bear and two cubs (early adolescents?) scavaging for food scraps in large city-issued trash bin north of Grove Park Inn on Patton Mountain Road in Asheville City limits (Sunday, August 21st, 2011 at approximately 5:45am.) I was running up the dirt road on my morning loop run when I encountered the family. Mother seemed to be giving cubs a lesson in how to to tip over large trash bins in search of food. None of the 3 bears was concerned with my arrival on the scene and I quickly backtracked after realizing that they had not noticed me, or were too busy with their project. Many black bear sitings this season in Asheville and surrounding area....
