The hummingbirds have started their southward migration. We have see our first hummingbird this season; the hummingbirds do not pass through my site during the spring migration for some reason. However we have been in this area for more than 30 years and we have hummers stopping here for a brief rest and nectar feeding prior to continueing the southward migration that they follow. Nice to see them again: they usually arrive late in the first week of August but we have seen them the last week in July and they have usually passed us by the first or second week in September. We have seen them as lat as the end of the third week in September.
