Flying southward in clear directional flight, a monarch appeared in my yard at 6:30 pm. As it traveled, it seemed to be inspecting my trees for a place to spend the night (and maybe searching for other monarchs?) It wove in and out between the trees in the grove but then continued on its way. Five minutes later a 2nd monarch appeared and followed the same pattern. However, this one selected a spot in the black walnut tree and settled in. I checked on it periodically until sundown, and it remained in the same place. I kept hoping more monarchs would arrive and land with this one so I could call this a roost!
