While I was on the phone I looked out my patio door to see a ruby-throated hummingbird diligently nectaring at every possible blossom of my trumpet vine. I was not close enough to tell the gender. Sightings in the week in my yard were either juveniles or females. This one was desperate enough to fly as far into the trumpet as possible to find nectar.
