Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/25/2011

Number: 1

This summer has seen scarce activity in our neighborhood by Monarchs.... we've seen just a few sporadically here and there.

But this morning I glanced at the milkweed we've saved out from the tractor mowings and lo and behold I quickly and easily spotted two Monarch caterpillars!

One was likely in it's last instar while the other one was quite a bit smaller... perhaps 1 inch or so long.

So, what did I do? I brought them inside so I can watch them develop... and then when the time is right, let them go on a nice north wind so they can catch up with those who are leaving now or close to leaving.
