Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/25/2011

Number: 1

We are seeing activity resembling a beginning to roost but still are not sure. A handful of individuals are seeking evening roosts in the grove and yard trees, but usually separated from one another.

We are also still see copulating adults in flight, and egg depositing activity on milkweeds. I must report that our summer numbers are "perceived" as lower than last year...maybe more so than most years. We've had heavy aerial spraying for soybean aphids in the area - more so than in past years (?).

We also had a heavy wind/hail incident on 8/23/11 and lost some trees and native pasture plants are fairly damaged; don't know if any larva or adults were lost?
