Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/27/2011

Number: 10

Between yesterday and today, we've collected 10 monarch larvae all 4th and 5th instar. Milkweed is everywhere, and we've been watching for larvae all summer, not to have found even one (nor any leaf damage or frass). Their sudden appearance now in late August, suggests a we could have a late-to-emerge generation in mid-September. With cool temperatures approaching and over 2,500 miles to fly it will be a long journey to Mexico for these monarchs!
