Hummingbird Sighting (Adult Male)

Date: 08/29/2011

Number: 5

We returned last night after evacuating for the hurricane...we left feeders out over our absence of 36 hours and upon our return we found that they were exhausted. We filled the feeders last night, hoping to get some of our customers back. The morning was slow. We had one bully keeping the others away and attempting to dominate all five feeders. The defender was a juvenile male...we could see his color coming in. His defense worked for a couple of hours but when our neighbors feeders(which had no feeders at all until we left) ran out of food, the birds started returning to our feeders. Our neighbors sure enjoyed our gang during our absence. We saw many fewer males today, and we saw lots of juveniles. We only saw about 5 males, though we probably saw 25+ birds.
