Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 08/25/2011

Number: 200

September 16
I haven't seen any roost since Sept. 2nd. The morning of Sept. 3, it was fun to watch them flutter away about 9 a.m. as it warmed up a bit and the air lightened from the heavy dew and humidity of the early morning. It is now cold and windy here~ perfect weather to see roosts but there are none, so I assume they have all passed through. I did not see nearly as many monarch/roosts this year as in the past.

September 1
About 100 monarchs roosting in the shelterbelt. Wind switched directions today so now it is from the north at about 12 mph. Monarchs are now roosting on the south side of the trees. (opposite of yesterday, when the wind was from the south) Hot(90) and humid again. Monarchs are more active tonight than last night.

August 31
180-200 Monarchs roosting in shelterbelt. South wind about 12 mph. Hot (87 degrees) and humid.
