Report from the Monarch Butterfly Research Project on Stonington Peninsula: September 1
So far our counts have been very low. No large groups moving through at all. Our highest number so far has been 62 (August 22). First roost also August 22. Temperatures have been pretty warm, not sure if this is making a difference or not.
We count 3 times daily from August 8 until September 25.
September 16th
There hasn't been any large roost counts since September 5th. That was the largest roost with 150 monarchs. Hardly any monarchs at all. We've had near freezing temperatures the past two nights. I guess I'm not really expecting any more large groups to move through. This has been the lowest number of monarchs seen here in the 10 years I've been monitoring.
