Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/01/2011

Number: 1

I live in So. Il. where we seldom actually see Monarch activity. I did have egg loading in the spring, but because my milkweed was barely up, I had to go out and hunt more to feed all the caterpillars (nearly 50). In June and July I had a bountiful crop of milkweed but no caterpillars. In early Aug. I caught fleeting glimpses of what I thought could be monarchs. Today is Sept. 1, the temperature is forecast to hit 98 degrees and I have 38 butterflies due out of their chrysalis' any time . I also have 46 hungry caterpillars and a mostly dried milkweed patch. I don't know if these butterflies will go north or south but I wish they would visit my flowers for just one day before they go.
