Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/02/2011

Number: 2

A female hummingbird returned to our feeder on Sunday 08/28/11 having survived the tropical storm -- high winds and torrential rain associated with Hurricane Irene. We believe that she was "our" hummingbird from before the storm as she spend time in the tree above the feeder although she could not take up her usual perch because that branch had been downed by the wind.

However, until today we have not had any "turf wars" and so we thought we had lost one if not two other birds that used to try and feed at our feeders but were regularly seen of by "our" hummer. Today we have again had two hummers with one chasing off the other.

We are also having problems with small wasps round the feeders. we cannot find the nest on our property. They obviously annoy the hummingbird, which has killed one wasp but mainly just changes position on the feeder when annoyed by wasps.
