Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/02/2011

Number: 12

There are still 12-15 at our feeders this week. However, last Tuesday they all but seemed to disappear. Only 6 or 7 were hitting the feeders hard, and than on Wednesday morning they were all back again. Hard for me to determine male from female, however, did identify the ONE ruby-throat as being a male, but haven't seen him today at all. All this week he was protecting one particular feeder. He perched on the hanger and guarded and seemed to drink from just the one feeder. Anyone have any clues as to why?
