Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/03/2011

Number: 40

Rescued a young male RT hummer today! Saw him "swimming" in a bird bath. Flying while dragging his tail and feet, then sitting on a rock with water up to his neck. Noticed something black on the end of his beak. He would fly to a feeder but was unable to open his beak enough to drink and would then go back to the water to repeat everything. DH was able to catch him and found a large black carpenter ant stuck on the end of his beak. Once the ant was removed, the bird flew to the bushes. We assume he's eating now, though with @ 40 hummers flying around, we can't pick him out.
