Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/05/2011

Number: 1500

Visited Tiffany's property Friday... so nice of her to invite visitors. It was cool and drizzle of rain off and on. We were there about noon to 1 PM and most were staying in the trees and many were on lower branches able to be photographed, but out of reach to net and tag. I managed to tag two that were flying . Not many were doing that, maybe 10 at a time max. Every time we looked up, we saw another grouping. It was almost 2 hrs from my home, but worth the trip! 1000 monarchs! Thank you, Tiffany!

They are back! 1500. I didn't see any for about a week, but they are back and just as numerous as before!
Once again, observers or taggers welcome!

September 14:
I was apparently being very conservative in my previous reports! Some experienced monarch trackers came out today and their estimates are between 1000-2000 butterflies on my property!
They have been here since Labor day
Observers welcome!

September 11: 200-300 monarchs

I thought they were gone, but after some rainy days there's still butterflies! There may be even more now! I'd say we now have at least 200, possibly 250-300. They are in the trees in the back of our yard. I will try to get some pics and videos here too. Taggers, or those who want to come observe/video/take pics are welcome to do so, just get in touch!

There seem to be a few less now, but not sure, they are still in the tree they have been in for the most part. During the day, they flutter around our apple tree, but when resting they go back to the oak.

September 5:
Approximately 200 monarchs in our trees, hanging around for the last couple days. I first saw the roost Labor Day - 09/05/11.
