Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/03/2011

Number: 1

I am so happy ,because I saw the first of the Monarch's. In the past 2 days I had seen one Monarch each day. Perhaps they were Scouts (9/3-4). This morning (9/5) it was in the 60's and a north wind blowing. That is the coolest temp since April. About 5 p.m. I saw a few Monarchs and was so excited. I turned on the sprinkler and then there were 12 or so Monarch's.

It has been a very hot summer, Today is the 96th day 0f 100* +,many days 105* a few 109* average of Aug. 89.7*. On Aug. 12-14 we had a seven inch rain, the first moister since May.I had no flowers blooming from May until after the Aug. rain. There were no butterflies of any kind or color. Normally the blue mist is blooming and there are Queen butterflies. I have seen only a few {12} Queen 's, no swallowtails, yellow or white .Now the there are flowers blooming and my yard is colorful. I have had plants and small trees die. We can water 2 times a week, but will soon go to once a week. Our city has 23 months of water left.

I think that it was so hot that If there were butterfly eggs they would have burned up. The Wild fire in April burned miles of the route that the Monarch's come through on their way to Mexico. However there is now green grass along the highways. There have been fires South of us also. Texas has had a hot ,dry summer.
