Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/07/2011

Number: 1

This morning there were at least three hummers contesting the feeders in a cold, soppy rain. They appear to be juveniles with throat stripes and chin and chest spots. One may be a female - beautiful feathering and clear creamy front. Last night there were at least five hummers feeding just before dark so I would expect to see a similar number tonight. They are so lively and contentious. Wish they didn't have to leave their abundant nectar supply to fly off into the unknown. Thank goodness for Southern watchers who wait for them and take over their care.
