My co-worker and I have been finding and tagging butterflies for Journey North for 3-5 years. We always have many healthy monarchs emerge from their chrysalises. this year has been very disturbing. Approximately half of all our caterpillars are dying before the pupa stage or after in a pupa. We are picking up the monarchs along side the road juat as we have done before. The milkweed we feed them once captured, is free of any pesticides because it grows along one teacher's house.
Has anyone else reported thes death rates? We are concerned and want to help the survival rate.
