On this lovely day on Long Beach Island, I just found 20+ newly deposited eggs on my potted tropical milkweed. I brought them in and will raise them on common milkweed for the students at Washington School, Summit, NJ to observe, tag and release.
Chip Taylor responds:
Courtship, mating and egg laying are still underway at this latitude
(39N) but should diminish soon. The leading edge of the migration usually reaches Lawrence between 9-11 Sept.
Today's strong N and slightly NE winds should help monarchs move into NW Iowa and monarchs should be seen in good numbers in Ames and Des Moines by the 6th.
