Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/09/2011

Number: 40

We are in the top two weeks of the fall migration of RTHB here along the midcoast of Texas. It had been good but got really good today. I counted twenty and there were a good many more that were up in the trees, around the shrubs, and visiting the flowers. Even our cat "Buffy" was at the window by the backdoor about 6:30 perched on a chest watching six RT's right outside at a feeder. I counted as many as three and four at other feeders and six visiting Turk's Caps and scarlet salvia.
I've had fun this week sitting on the deck with my camera having the RT's and one Rufous buzzing me but tolerating me more than each other. At 7:30, Buffy was at the other backdoor looking out over deck still watching RT's zipping by ... at eight the action was over for the evening ... will resume just before the sun rises in the morning!
