Monarch Adult Sighted

While the Susquehanna River was at flood stage in the Valley below where I live, the butterflies were enjoying the Goldenrod in the Back Mountain areas above... Thank God! I was walking through farm field areas with plenty of goldenrod, and saw two monarch butterflies -- one roosting on some Goldenrod, and one that zoomed right by me earlier on my walk. God bless them and be with them on their migration !!

A few days earlier, I have seen a monarch butterfly fly through our back yard too- so it's nice to know they are around. We have alot of milkweed on my road- and I insist on keeping native wildflowers -such as jewelweed, a patch of goldenrod, etc, in a garden on our property. I was delighted to find that common milkweed sprouted from a milkweed seed I planted in potting soil- so I planted it and it's doing nicely in my garden. My hope is that I can have a patch of common milkweed there as well--for these beautiful winged ones when they lay their eggs :-)
