Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/09/2011

Number: 12

We are having the annual "hummingbird wars" at the 3 feeders on our back deck and 2 feeders on the side of our house. We have one large female guarding the left side feeder;she seems to "joust" with 2 other females. One male guards the feeder to the right. The third feeder is guarded by another "chubby" male. There are three different males that we can distinguish and four or five females of varying size. They perch in trees surrounding the yard and swoop in all at once to vie for a feeder. We do not see any "shared" feeding behavior; but have not seen it much all year either.
