Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/10/2011

Number: 1

I still have Hummingbirds! Today I saw 2 female adolecents, 1 young male and 2 adult females. As usual they are chasing each other around, feeding on nectar and flowers. I have one female that loves to sit on the tomatoe plant spiral support. I took some action pictures of her looking around very intently. Another female came up to the feeder on it after the first one left. I saw the very young male at the feeder at my front door twice. The first time he just hovered in front of the door looking at me. He has just a slight tiny smudge of red on his gorget and he is maybe two thirds the size of the adult females. I am looking forward to seeing them tomorrow. I know they will be leaving soon and I pray they all will be safe and come back next Spring. They are such a joy to watch and so curious it makes me laugh. I had one yesterday, a tiny female, sitting on my fuchisa plant bobbing the little strings in the bloom back and forth with her beak like a pendulum. The plant was a little wilted from the heat and I think she was wondering how to get to the nectar on it while she was playing with it. I wish I had my camera. Hope you are all having as much fun and joy watching and feeding the hummers like I do!
