Hummingbird Sighting (Adult Male)

Date: 09/10/2011

Number: 17

I saw so many hummingbirds on Saturday, both male and female ruby-throats. There were countless times that I saw 2 chasing each other all over the place, zooming back and forth on the patio, out across the yard, up into the woods. It was like they dared each other to land on a flower or feeder! 8:30 am-male Ruby-throat on feeder hanging in crepe myrtle tree; 9:15 two ruby-throats were flying back and forth across the patio; 10:08 a lone ruby-throat flying; 12:00 noon, 12:20, and 12:23, 2 ruby-throats chasing each other from feeder to flower. At 1:16 I observed 2 ruby-throats literally "dancing" around the feeder in the crepe myrtle. It was as if they were attached by a string, on bird on each side! After they both flew off, another came and landed on the feeder. There were two other sightings of multiple ruby-throats feeding and chasing. Makes me wonder what is going on when I'm not looking!
