Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/10/2011

Number: 6

During a 2 hour bike ride in the countryside, we saw several monarchs nectaring in the clover fields throughout our trip. The tell-tale sign that monarchs might be present were the dozens of sulphur butterflies dancing above the blossoms. Our highest count was 6 butterflies that we counted in one field in the space of 2 minutes. It might not sound like much, but this is probably peak migration for us! There was a strong north wind and the monarchs were most abundant in this field with a south-facing slope where they were protected.
